# But as hard as we try to move forward...
as tempting as it is to never look back...
the past always comes back to bite us in the ass.

                           # And as history shows us again and again,
those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

                           # Sometimes the past is something you just can't let go of.

And sometimes the past is something
                               we'll do anything to forget.

                               And sometimes
we learn something new about the past...
                               that changes everything we know...
                               about the present.

Michael:  Wait, the music's not chaning. Wait, wait, wait.
Somthin's wrong.
Lincoln: What happened?
Michael: I don't know. But we're gonna need the explosion.
      ... ...
Michael:  He's here. He's here.
Michael:  The radio must have jammed.
We're gonna have to set it off manually.
Lincoln: Car could blow any second though.
Michael: The Feds are gonna be here in about two minutes.
If it doesn't look like we're dead, we will be...
(He turns to Lincoln and raises a first.)
      Rock, paper, scissors..
      Linc!
Lincoln: It's my turn.

CHRISTINE: Your dad never even had a chance to
meet you...so how could he not like you?
WALTER   : Then why did he leave?

CHRISTINE: Well, the same day you were born,
something else arrived. It came in
the mail, in a box just slightly
bigger than you. You know what was in that box?
   Something called responsibility.
  Now, to some people, responsibility
is fun, it's what you live your
whole life for. Other people think
it's the scariest thing in the world.
WALTER   : So he ran away because he was scared
of what was in the box?

CHRISTINE: Yup.
WALTER   : That's dumb.
CHRISTINE: That's what I thought.

CHRISTINE: Walter, I decided a long time ago
that I would always tell you the
truth, that I would treat you like
 a grown-up. I can't expect you to
respect me unless I respect you.
I've never lied to you. Your father
leaving had nothing to do with you,
and everything to do with what was
   in the responsibility box.

Original Screenplay by J. Michael Straczynski

BENJAMIN BUTTON'S (V.O.)

"...What I think is, it's never
too late...or, in my case, too
early, to be whoever you want to
                 be...There's no time limit, start
                 anytime you want...change or stay
                 the same...there aren't any
rules...We can make the best or
worst of it...I hope you make the
best...I hope you see things that
                 startle you. Feel things you
never felt before. I hope you
meet people who have a different
point of view. I hope you
                 challenge yourself. I hope you
stumble, and pick yourself up. I
hope you live the life you wanted
                 to...and if you haven't, I hope
                 you start all over again."

<The Curious Case of Benjamin Button>, 2009
Directed by David Fincher
Written by Eric Roth, Based on the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Benjamin-Brad Pitt, Daisy-Cate Blanchett

A couple hundred years ago,
Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success.
"Never leave that till tomorrow," he said, "which you can do today."

I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess,
I'd say it has a lot to do with fear.
Fear of failure, fear of pain, fear of rejection.

Sometimes, the fear is just of making a decision.
Because, what if you're wrong? What if you're making a mistake you can't undo?

 (... ...)

We have to make our own mistakes.
We have to learn our own lessons.
We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore,
until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin meant.
That knowing is better than wondering.
That waking is better than sleeping.

And that even the biggest failure, even the worst,
most intractable mistake beats the hell out of never trying.
